Abstract
Atomic force microscopy has been found to be useful in characterization of different systems ranging from solid material to very soft biological systems including membranes. In the proposed seminar a brief outline of the technical details, methodology and usefulness of AFM will be discussed. AFM studies on different biocompatible/biological systems like contact lenses, kinetics of starch degradation, collageneous structure of proteins, cell divisions, even DNA structures will be reported. Besides, detailed studies on the topography of different model membranes and pulmonary surfactant (from rat) will be reported.
